The opening of Heathcote&Co’s new restaurant situated in the Historic Albert Halls took place took place on the 22nd August 2019 some 136 years after the grade two listed building was opened .
“The Northern is a reflection on old fashioned recipes and dishes brought up to date” said Gary Bates joint owner of the restaurant and Paul Heathcote’s business partner. We have looked at old fashioned dishes traditionally cooked in the North of England or the producers and farmers.
The opening of The Northern had both young and slightly more elderly guests joining in the celebrations along with a smattering of Bolton celebrities. A taste of the North was shared by all including, fish cakes, black pudding, and malted milk with honeycomb.
Paul Heathcote said: “The restaurant has a big nod to many who have been born, raised or made significant contributions to the town, their faces are framed and placed on the wall. I’ve included my Dad and Grandfather both who were well known for their sporting achievements, my Dad is still at it, on his 83 years young he swam lake Windermere 10 miles, non stop.”
So what can a diner expect at The Northern? Potted Salmon with poor mans crumpets, Rag pudding, and the Heathcote bread and butter pudding are all quickly established favourites.
